White paper · v1.0 · 18 September 2026 — for the organizations we invite to found the project. Questions and comments: [email protected]. Developed at MondoTwin, a company incubated at the Agentic Systems Lab, a lab of ETH Zürich. Public launch: Monday 12 October 2026, 14:00 Zurich time.
Your organization is invited. We are asking you to join the Open Company OS as a founding organization — alongside MondoTwin and the Agentic Systems Lab at ETH Zürich. What we ask: fill in the form (about one minute) by Friday 2 October, and publish one ready-made post on Monday 12 October at 14:00 Zurich time. Anything more — building, piloting, research — is your choice. What you get: permanent founding credit, a week of private preview before everyone else, and a seat in the working group that shapes the spec. → Join as a founding organization
A company should be able to read its own operating system.
Today, how a company actually runs — how an invoice gets booked, who signs what, which filing is due, what the auditor will ask next — lives in people's heads, in SaaS settings nobody can see, and in the inbox of whoever happens to remember. It is the least versioned, least tested, least shared software in the economy.
Coding agents change what that software can be. An agent can now read a repository, call an API, drive a browser, reconcile a ledger and follow a written procedure with judgment. The consequence is bigger than automation: the operating manual of a company can become code — versioned in git, diffable, forkable, reviewable, and executed every day.
Picture where this goes:
git log. Every procedure has a history. Every action an agent proposed, and every one a human approved, is on the record.git clone. Handing someone a department means handing them one repository: its procedures, its lessons, its connectors — and physically nothing else. That future should not belong to a platform that rents your own operating logic back to you per seat. It should be open, owned by each company, and built together. That is the Open Company OS — and it is not a concept: it was built inside a real company, MondoTwin, and runs its day-to-day business.
Every department is a git repository. Every procedure is a skill file the agent executes. Every number is read live from the system that owns it — the ledger, the CRM, the e-signature platform, the work board. And every act that moves money or creates a legal obligation stops at a human gate. The agent is any general-purpose coding agent — Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, or the one you already use. Nothing here is tied to one vendor: instructions are AGENTS.md, procedures are SKILL.md skills, connectors are MCP servers and CLIs — open formats the major coding agents read. The company's knowledge is plain files the company owns.
